My Review

“…secrets never die. They live far longer than we do, and they always find their way to the surface.”

August and Everly. We were taken captive by their story in Forgetting August. And now we come to the finality of their story in Remembering Everly

“It’s time we moved past the memories that have defined us for so long. You are August, and I am Everly…and for as long as I can remember, I have loved you. Even when things were bleak, and it seemed like our future was lost, that was the one thing that remained constant – my love for you.”

This was such a difficult story to begin reading. Told in dual points of view, Remembering Everly brought back every joy and pain that I felt in Forgetting August. There were moments of pleasure, heartache, reprieve, and possibilities, each causing more ties to be forged or broken, making way for the future. I was so nervous, and my anxiety never stopped until the very end. The characters showed depth and change, but still had a sense of self-preservation that allowed for unexpected twists. This is likely an odd thing to add into a review, but this book made me crave coffee like a crazy person. At least every other page I fought the urge to get up and make a pot, choosing to repeatedly deny myself the pleasure so I wouldn’t have to leave August and Everly (you’ll get this when you read it). Coming to the end, I found a since of relief and an ability to inhale and exhale deeply, knowing that wrongs had be righted and there was a sense of peace. So glad to have a conclusion for this couple who stole my heart.

“I would love him for everything he was, everything he wasn’t, and everything we could be together.”
