My Review

Drowning by Marni Mann and Gia Riley is a new dark romance novel.

Monsters are monsters until the day they die.

Andi has been a victim of her circumstances for way too long. She’s ready to take a chance, embrace the future, and be free. Clay needs to stay away. But he can’t. He’s drawn to things in his life that may not help his plight, but move his passion.

“What I seek is Adrian’s passion. The way he grips me unapologetically – not out of malice, but out of sheer want. Like he’s trying to climb inside me and can’t get close enough.”

Told in dual points of view, Drowning presented with such a unique plot. Two strangers finding themselves thrown together by chance and finding love in the process is a common theme. But the direction that Drowning took became anything but typical. It was a suspenseful story of desperation and the need to start again, coated in sensuality and succulence. The story progressed quickly, and was easy to follow, but still had some great surprises and twists that definitely escalated the thrill and drive when reading.

He sees the girl beneath the scars and pain, a girl who longs for a better life. A life with choices, happiness, and possibilities.

Clay and Andi were both special characters, each having to deal with their own pasts. They made me smile with their flirtatious banter, caused me to take out the fans for their heat factor, and fist pump in the air for their determination. Their insta-attraction and magnetism made way for so many other emotional moments in the story. At one point, you could find me on my bed, sobbing into tissues and crying out like Rocky, “Adrian!!”

“Before you, all I knew how to do was swim and run like hell I can’t do either of those now. I can only stop myself from drowning.”

Drowning was a great collaboration between Authors Marni Mann and Gia Riley. The words and character dialogue flowed with ease so that readers could not tell where one author’s writing ended and the other began. I hope that they will be giving us more of the secondary characters in the story. Reading their stories would be a delight.
