Synopsis

“My guardian angel is a drunk.”
Evelyn Casey's life is at a standstill. She's in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It's absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he's a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he's brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he's brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as ----. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.
For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

My Review

Lucian Divine by Renee Carlino is contemporary romance novel with a paranormal flair and a fine line of taboo, forbidden love.

“Having a sexy guardian angel that I wanted to get naked with was just too good to be true.”

Evey has horrible luck with men. Never the right timing or just a loser guy, they just never work out. Then she meets him. Lucian. He’s known her for a long time. He’s protected her, guided her, and craved her. Their meeting is opening heaven’s doors to the unthinkable and moving into uncharted territory for both our hero and heroine

“This is not happening, this is not real. I’ve been drugged. I’m dreaming”

Told in alternating first person point of view, Lucian Divine was an intriguing, magical, heart-breaking, and heart-raising novel. Author Renee Carlino’s words flowed seamlessly on the page and created an other-worldly and unique ethereal theme that resonated in love. Complimenting the story line was a great combination of human and angelic characters that provided humor and balance.

“You’re the dream, the air, the reason, the cause for my whole existence.”

From the early part of the story, I was happily wrapped in an Evey and Lucian cocoon, snug and warm. Lucian was a timeless romantic and Evey found the other half of herself in him. Their love made my heart skip several beats, but also had butterflies doing back flips in my stomach. As the story progressed, my emotions were all over the place. They turned from elation and ease, to sorrow and distress, and then shock and reflection. I mourned for them, wept with them, and found myself praying for their future, as if they were real and I could somehow change their fate. In the words of Lucian, I had a “rip-your-bleeding-heart-out-and-step-in-front-of-a-speeding-train kind of love” with this book. This was the story of soul mates and lost lovers finding their way home. A divine intervention that was a great escape.

“Watch for me. I’ll be barreling toward you, arms wide open, and then we’ll crash into each other with the force of two spent lives yearning to be one.”
