Synopsis

Left or right.

It’s that simple, and it isn’t simple at all.

If I turn left, the road will lead me back to the man I promised my life to, the one I’d imagined building a family with, the one who’s done everything in his power to get me back.

If I turn right, the road will take me to the man I loved first, the man who brought me back to life, the man who would do anything to keep me.

I knew the fork in the road was inevitable; it was the decision I never wanted to make between choices I didn't know I had.

And I love them both.

My heart is destined to exist in two equal halves — one with each man. But one half beats stronger, the vein running deepest, and holds my choice in silence long before I know it for myself.

The realization of what I have to do, of the heart I have to break, just might break mine too.

Left or right.

All I have to do is take a breath and turn.

My Review

What He Always Knew by Author Kandi Steiner is part two of the What He Doesn’t Know Duet. It is a love triangle of epic proportions.

“Be careful what you wish for.”

I had such trepidation going into this novel. It took me days to finally crack open the first page. I wanted to know the rest of the story. I was scared to death to know the rest of the story. My stomach was wound tight like a rubber band ball, just waiting to be released.

“…no matter which direction I went, no matter which man I chose, both would exist in me forever. They were valves in my heart, and I could not beat on without both of them present in some way.”

And then Kandi Steiner unleashed the Kraken. OMG! The fury I felt at most of these characters made me want to lunge for the pages. As is with most love triangles, the continual push and pull to and away from each other can make a reader quite testy. But, the hooks this author set caused a continual twisting that tore deeper and deeper with each spin. Just when I thought I knew who to love and who to hate, the author would make me question myself all over again. I wondered if when writing these words she had been sitting on the other side of her keyboard, grinning, with a mischievous smile as she typed out scenes that would make readers sit spell-bound and lifeless to the outside world.

“I was caught in the flames of the fire I had started, the one I’d wanted to warm me, now slowly killing me, instead. Both Cameron and Reese were my oxygen, but as much as they cleansed my lungs, they also fueled the fire. It was a deadly circle, a never-ending cycle of torture, and to stop it, I had to jump through the hottest part of the fire.”

As every second ticked by, every page turned, I felt more and more like someone was squeezing my heart, then letting it go long enough to pump blood through, before it forcefully squeezed it again. It was complete torture!

“Like the writer who cannot live without the reader, and the rose that cannot exist without the rain, I am bound to you, to your love, and I cannot go on without it.”

I’ll stop here because this is a book to be experienced. But let me give you my three words for the last 30 percent…intense, overwhelming, numbing. When a novel can grip you like this one, from the inside out, and make you teeter on the edge for EVERY SINGLE main character, you know that the writing is brilliant. What He Always Knew was the ultimate rose ceremony.

“I wanted to bottle it up and keep it forever, just in case I ever wanted to take a sip of this night again. Later. In another time.”
