Synopsis

Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania (population three thousand outside of tourist season).

And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed date, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has rescued: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.

Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time.

But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. There’s an immediate connection, and it’s more electric than the bond of two people who endured a traumatic event. It’s something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something she is afraid to trust.

Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine...before the spark fades?

My Review

Until it Fades by K. A. Tucker is an NA, contemporary romance, Cinderella story.

Catherine has had a really bumpy road to walk. Her path changed drastically in high school, and since that time, she’s been a truck stop diner waitress, making enough to take care of things as best she could. Brett is a star, literally. A hockey god. Every knows him, well everyone except Catherine. But all of that changes when she saves his life.

Some stories just light you from the inside, making your heart full of hope and joy. This was Until it Fades. I love stories with an underdog. But what was most mesmerizing about this story was that the assumed underdog, Catherine, was one of the strongest female heroines. She did everything she had to do to make an upstanding living for herself and her daughter. She fought ridicule and hatred, even from those closest to her, and emerged as a better person. The night she met Brett changed everything. Brett was such a inwardly strong and outwardly sexy guy. His protection of Catherine was an immediate draw for me. I was definitely the fan sitting in the stands hoping that these two would live out the fairytale that seemed to have touched their lives. All of this was surrounded by the quaint feel of a small town and family and friends, which made for a backdrop that was dreamy.

Until it Fades was a sweet and slow burn romance novel that cast a spell on my heart.

4 Stars
