I’m fucked.
The life I have lived for the past ten years is built solely on lies and secrets.
But I can’t help myself.
I’m in love with two different men. And one of them is my brother-in-law.
He’s my drug. My fire. My addiction.
But he’s married to my best friend. And I’m married to my husband.
I’m not ashamed. I have no guilt.
I’m not fucked. I’m a fucked up person.
This is the story of how I ruined my life.
And the life of the one I loved most.

My Review

Torrid Affair is a new standalone novel by Callie Anderson. It is a taboo love story and does involve an aspect of cheating.

“They say you shouldn’t play with fire, but I needed to feel the burn.”

Torrid Affair was an extremely intense and angst-driven ride. I’m not quite sure where to even begin. My body aches from the pressure of this story, but I couldn’t read the words fast enough.

“There are things in life that are out of your control.”

The plot was intense and provided a story with twists and turns that birthed more mind-altering bends. I could easily keep up with the changes throughout, but they kept me right on the edge of my seat, crying, screaming, begging for more.

“He was the spark to my heart. And if I was to be honest, there was nothing more enticing than holding a sparkler.”

I have so many mixed emotions about the characters. At some point in the story, I wanted to slap or throat punch all of them. But, my heart continually brought me back to Nathaniel and Brielle.

“You’re a fire that I can’t put out. It started as something small, but now it’s consuming and uncontainable.”

We know from the synopsis and author warning that cheating is present in the story. But, it’s unconventional and just didn’t seem to overshadow or diminish the main characters themselves. The big cheater was life. Life had cheated them, poor decisions had robbed them, and lost love had crippled them.

“Sometimes dreams are just that – dreams. A small escape from reality. I learned to stop dreaming and face my life head on.”

I was pretty much an emotional time bomb, ticking away from the very early pages of the story. I swooned, laughed, cried, panicked, and bawled as I blew my way through each page and walked my own trail of tears, thankful that in the end it did give way to light and resolve that was pure perfection.

Torrid Affair was a taboo and unconventional second-chance love story that will not soon be forgotten and lingers in my heart and mind.

“To the bastards we love, the ones we lost, and the ones we could never forget. Salute.”
