They call me a slut. Maybe I am.
Sometimes I do things I despise.
Sometimes men take without asking.

But I have a musical gift, only a year left of high school, and a plan.
With one obstacle.

Emeric Marceaux doesn’t just take.
He seizes my willpower and bangs it like a dark note.
When he commands me to play, I want to give him everything.
I kneel for his punishments, tremble for his touch, and risk it all for our stolen moments.

He’s my obsession, my master, my music.
And my teacher.

I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

My Review

“It’s universally known that the more forbidden something is, the more desirable it becomes.”

Dark Notes is a dark, student teacher romance novel spiced with BDSM. It is my introduction to books by Author Pam Godwin.

“Nothing is inconceivable, and everything is possible. The proof is in the magic of the music.”

I have been searching for months for a student teacher romance that would light my reader mind on fire, making it burn with passion and artistry of words.  Dark Notes fed my craving to overflowing, giving me everything I look for in a student teacher romance and leaving me with an afterglow effect that has yet to dim.

“There’s not an audience in the world big enough to contain you. But you need one passionate enough to hold you.”

Ivory doesn’t have the perfect life.  To look only at her material possessions, one would not see the hidden exceptionalities that are tucked away below the surface.  But, she is a beautiful and gifted young lady. Currently working to complete her last year at Le Moyne Academy, which is where she shines. She may not have much, but she is driven to reach her dream and will make sure to do what she has to in order to get there.

“He’s it for me. The zenith of my happiness. All roads, however perilous and winding, lead to this man, my teacher, the music of my soul.”

Emeric is in a class of his own. Hardened by things that he used to take pleasure in, he finds control in his music and being the master over those who want to learn and become the best. He is a man of many talents, both seen and unseen, and seeks to share those with someone who can appreciate all that he has to offer.

“Sometimes you love people you shouldn’t, and in the endless space of that love, nothing else matters.”

Dark Notes was a student teacher romance of epic proportions. I LOVED everything about this book. The characters had such depth and complexity.  Emeric was a juxtaposition of thought, unable to rationalize the girl with the woman  presented before him. He was hard with rough edges, demanding. Yet there were parts of his life clothed in softness and warmth. The same can be said of Ivory.  What was presented on the outside cloaked the talent and maturity of thought for one so internally driven to succeed.  Both beautifully flawed.  Both immeasurably strong.  Both ensnared by each other.  Separate, they were forces of nature to admire. Together they were the lightning storm that dances across the sky, dangerous and unpredictable, but too aesthetically tempting to turn away. The taut moments created by this force of nature became a tension rod of desire, with its constant ebb and flow, giving and taking with each breath of the wind. They both taught each other so much about life, taking chances, living in the moment, and daring to dream. The storyline was unique, had a succinct rhythm and feel, with words that flowed like the gentle roll of the ocean, a true wonder of wonders that you never want to end. I felt everything, the words wrapping around my mind, creating points to capture in my memory with visions of longing, confusion, disappointment, trust, acceptance, revelation, and love. It is a novel to be read, enjoyed, savored, and remembered.  An exceptional escape!

“I’m his Ivory, and he’s my darkest note.”
