He’s tall, dark, and sexy, with money and power, the kind of man who makes a girl want to be possessed. And he does possess her, whispering wicked wonderful promises to her, stealing her trust and her heart. Soon though, the past finds her, yanking her from a cocoon of passion and safety. Everything is not how it seems. The truth will shatter her world, but it can set her free, if it doesn't destroy her first.

My Review

Denial is book one in the new Careless Whispers series, a spin-off from the Inside Out series.  This is also the first book I have read by Author Lisa Renee Jones. Her name is a very familiar name in the book world, and I have her books on my Kindle, but it’s the same story…so many books, so little time. I received this book from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I am so glad that I made time to begin reading this author.  Based on what I read in Denial, I will definitely be diving into her other books as soon as possible.

To tell too much about the novel would be to give it away, as it is one big mystery after the next. Written in first person point of view, Denial was a story of determination, secrets, past and presents.  Throughout the entire story a perilous air of unknown is present as our main character, nameless to everyone at the beginning, sets out to discover the enigma that is her.  Many interesting men were present in her life, making her feel a range of emotions when they came to mind. But, one in particular was set to turn her world upside down.  The dialogue between these characters was very interesting, like watching an unpracticed dance. It had points of refinement and intimacy, and some in which the angles didn’t quite mesh, and they had to reassess and re-engage.  The secondary characters were also very perplexing and made me question them at every turn.  I was so into this story, wanting solutions, reaching to grab for them, but coming up short-handed at times. Because this is part of a series, the ending left even more to be questioned. But, it only heightened my reader’s mind more, and made me wish that the next book was available so that I could find the answers that I craved. An excellent beginning to the new series by Author Lisa Renee Jones.
