Giving her Guardian the slip has never been a problem for Beth. Even for a wolf, she is wicked fast and almost impossible to track. Then she meets Gareth, her new Guardian. Gareth is ruggedly handsome, unfailingly stubborn, and seems determined to sniff Beth out, no matter where she runs.

After a disastrous night of passion with Gareth, Beth has no choice but to put herself forward for mating. Although, it's not just Gareth that has his eye on this female. Donovan, a wolf from a neighboring pack , has his own reasons for wanting this she-wolf, and when Beth makes the wrong choice, she finds out exactly what happens when you're "thrown to the wolves".

Secrets are revealed and choices are made. Will love conquer all, or destroy everything Beth has ever known?

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

We begin the story some years back reliving a tumultuous and horrifying scene.  Then, we find ourselves in the present where we meet two of the main characters, Gareth and Beth. They have a life’s history together of friendship and service. We are introduced to Gareth as the shy but more responsible one, and Beth as the outspoken and do-it-my-way kind of girl.

“Life is not fair.  We must give up that which we would have, for that which we must do for the greater good.  Know that the Great Mother is ever loving and wise, and she will not see you without that which you need.”

Beth had a very difficult start in life. We can surmise that things have not always come easy for her, nor has she been comfortable in building close relationships.  She is a runner and likes to outwit others.  She is quick and seems to lack concerns for other’s feelings in regards to her own wants.  As we read further in the story, we discover that Beth has a difficult decision to make…stay with the man she loves or try to start a new life in a different place with someone that she hopes she will grow to love. Add to this the possible impact it may have on her pack, and we are presented with an impossible situation.

“She liked the power in this one.  He was strong.  He would protect her cubs. His seed would take strong root in her belly.  His jaws would lay fresh kills at their feet.  His loyalty would never waver if he was hers.  Yes, she liked this one.”

Gareth has had a secret for quite some time.  We are introduced to him as he is repeatedly given the slip by Beth. He is a character with integrity and strength.  He wants to do what is right for himself and for his pack.  But, he is at constant war with himself to make the choice that others feel is necessary.

“Beth,” he whispered. “You break my heart more and more each day, but Great Mother forgive me, I love you.”

Donovan.  He is at the right place at the wrong time. He was never meant to develop the feelings that he has for Beth. He was to be her guide back to his own pack where her destiny would be fulfilled by another, the ruthless Alpha, Bradley. Like the other characters in the story, he finds himself in an impossible predicament and must make choices that will forever change his life.

As the story progresses, we are made aware how other characters and their own selfishness have strongly effected the lives of many and created unnecessary anguish for both the Loam Floor and Tall Grass Packs.  We see the influence of the most important person in Donovan’s life, and how it has shaped who he has become and his role within his pack.  We also see how this influence impacts all of the other characters in the story and will eventually lead to a critical change in both packs.  In addition, we are privy to the shocking revelation of what happened to two of the most important people in Donovan’s and Beth’s lives.

Bound by Fate was unlike any other paranormal shifter story I’ve read. The author gave informative details about the wolves, their histories, mating rituals, and culture. One of the things that I believe makes a well-written book is the emotions that are evoked by the author to the reader.  That being said, I experienced a wide-range of feelings throughout Bound by Fate.  I felt anticipation with Beth and Gareth’s initial encounter, which then turned to anguish during the mating ceremony. My hope was then rekindled, only to be dashed by an unexpected turn from Gareth. I felt sorrowful when Beth was left without options and forced to make a life-altering change.  Then there was ANGER…deep, revolting anger. I had pity on all the main characters as more secrets were revealed, and they were made to acknowledge and yet do nothing about them.  I had an under-current of vengeful thoughts that followed until the near end, and wanted to scream and throw things.  But, karma has a way of straightening things out, righting wrongs, and bringing life full circle…and this made me smile and calmed my fury.

After venturing through all of the ups and downs with the characters in this story, this line represented my happily-ever-after for this story.

“I am hers…And she is mine.”

About Mandy Lou Dowson

Mandy Lou Dowson was born and raised in a small town in Ireland, in 1983, and at this stage in life, she's pretty sure the town won't let her leave. Family is a huge deal to Mandy. She has three wonderful children (most of the time), and two Siberian Huskies who are each as naughty as the other – in fact, she's sure they egg each other on in silly cartoon voices when nobody is looking.
“Climb out the window and get covered in mud.”
“No, I did it last time. You do it!”
“R'uh, r'oh, here SHE is. Shhh.”
When she's not writing, reading, or plotting her next book -- or, you know, world domination – , she likes to relax with a few glasses of wine and some karaoke. You can usually find her procrastinating on social media of some sort, chatting to fans and talking nonsense.

Mandy started reading at quite a young age and her appetite for the written word has only increased with time. It would not be at all surprising to find her reading anything and everything from shampoo bottles to Edgar Allan Poe.

She is the author of three different genres of romance books.

The Moon Bound series, which is in the Paranormal Romance genre, and is gathering rave reviews, and the Taboo series, which is Contemporary with a hint of the forbidden, the first of which has gathered very mixed reviews across the board, from one extreme to the other.

She has also made a foray into Dark Romance recently, with her first title in the genre, Retribution, releasing in Summer 2015.
