Series: Bright Side #1
Genres: New Adult, Romance

Everyone has one.
Some are bigger than others.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you ...
And some will end you.

Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

They both feel it.
But they each have a reason to fight it.
They each have a secret.

And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

My Review

“Discovering something new is like magic.”

Bright Side by Author Kim Holden is book one in the Bright Side series.

“What the hell just happened? I feel like I’ve been asleep for years and I’ve only just woken up.”

I was late coming into the game for reading Bright Side. I have fought it since release day because I just have a hard time with sad. I want to escape and feel good. But I also want to feel. And that is what Bright Side did, gave me goose bump feels, that became mountains of love and admiration, coupled with a thankfulness for life and it’s many blessings.

“…no regrets. Regrets just lead to second-guessing and anger and sadness…”

The opening pages of Bright Side were filled with such good snark and funny moments. The laughter was somewhat of an ominous nature, like when you’re on an indoor roller coaster, looking at the cool scenery and graphics, right before you plunge downward, directly off the face of the earth.

“You are simply…enchanting. People can’t resist you.”

I immediately had a connection to Kate, seeing her need to find herself and make her dreams happen. I had the same where-have-you-been-all-of-my-life connection with Gus. When he spoke with Kate it was with such honesty and reverence. Enter Keller, and ramp up the I-am-in-love meter. This young man was a step up from perfection. And from there, it was solidified, I knew that these characters were bound to break my heart, as I fell in love with them, the small towns, and big dreams.

“Just when you think you know someone, they change. Or you change. Or maybe you both change. And that changes everything.”

This story was simply amazing! Every small detail was skillfully crafted to give a story with such great character strength. I had love (and some love-to-hate-you) moments with all of the men, women, and children. Author Kim Holden gave them voices that filled the pages, bringing transformation and light. The last ten percent was the hardest for me, and I bawled like a stinking baby. I left this story with a red nose, a mountain of tissues, and blurry eyes. But, I also left it in awe of the romance, love, and hope that were present throughout the pages, bringing gentle reminders that life is short and is made to be lived.

“Do epic.”

About Kim Holden

Some of my favorite things: reading, writing, the two coolest guys on the planet (my husband and son), my bicycle (my husband built it for me), Facebook (I'm fairly certain it's an addiction at this point), iced coffee (hazelnut), and music (LOVE Sunset Sons, the 1975, Dredg, the xx, Balance and Composure, Teenage Bottlerocket, and 30 Seconds to Mars). I also love dreaming, which brings me to my next point. I have one bit of advice for anyone reading this ... follow your dreams. It's never too late. Get started today ... heck get started RIGHT NOW! I wanted to write a book 20 years ago. Instead I waited. And waited. I should've been writing. But I didn't. I don't do regrets, because the past is just that, the past. But let me tell you there's nothing in the world like achieving something you've dreamt about for years and years. So, get started. Make your dreams reality.
