My Review

A Fine Mess is book two in the Over the Top series by Author Kelly Siskind and can be read as a standalone. It is an office romance, friends-to-lovers novel.

“I’m all for maximum suckage. Minimum suckage can be unsatisfying.”

Lily and Sawyer first met in Aspen, a freak, chance meeting, that has since turned into so much more. They work together on business projects, but have never let their interactions go beyond friends, as Lily is in a long-term relationship, and Sawyer is on a stint of no-term relationships. However, on the side, Lily dreams of what it would be like to have more with Sawyer. Mustering the courage to make a go for it, the past comes crashing in, and these flovers (friends, who are meant to be lovers) find themselves fighting to find their way to each other.

“Looks like your dry spell has ended. I predict a rainy season. Monsoons. Hurricanes. I hope you’re prepared.”

I love that in starting this story I assumed who would need healing and who would help to facilitate it. But, the story took an unexpected twist, and charted a course for emotional wholeness for both Lily and Sawyer. There was humor, angst, surprise, and Author Kelly Siskind also hit on some fairly significant psychological difficulties, using them to bring awareness and a strength in character. A Fine Mess featured more of the fun and witty world that began with a tree and a bra. I can’t wait for more in this series.

“We’re every ending to every romantic comedy. We’re glitter and roses. We’re love finding its way home.”
