The attraction was undeniable.
I couldn’t escape him.
I didn’t want to.
I was his.
He was mine.
But he wasn’t my husband.

My once treasured marriage was now flawed and imperfect.
By the time the guilt set in, it was too late.
Reality was trying to keep me away from my obsession.
My husband was that reality.
My obsession was West.

But West was forbidden. Taken. Married.
We were swingers.
It was the perfect arrangement.

Until I fell in love…
With West.

My Review

Lover by Authors Marni Mann and Gia Riley is a swinger novel and a forbidden romance with some added morsels from the sport’s world.

“If you loved me as much as you say you do, you wouldn’t have needed choices. There wouldn’t have been a backup plan or a fallback guy. I’d have been enough. But I’m not.”

Mundane. Predictable. Same old, same old. This is what life has become for West and Tilly, Piper and Cannon. No spark. No fire. Sure both partners in each couple love one another. But it’s not enough. That illusive and secret ingredient is missing.

I started swinging to figure out our missing pieces. I wanted to know why I was in a marriage with a man I loved and still felt so alone. Why I woke up every morning, wondering why we’re so disconnected and what could bring us back together. Never in a million years did I think swinging would hurt in the best way imaginable. That I could get so lost in another man and then go home to my husband. I didn’t realize how much I needed West until I thought about the girl I’d be without him—the girl I had been before I met him.

Holy smokes! Ever pick up a book and not know that it’s EXACTLY what you’re craving? BINGO! That’s what happened here. I have been devouring every taboo, affair-ish novel I can find, and to discover that this new story from Marni Mann and Gia Riley fit that bill was the best gift EVER!

I was the queen, and he was my king; only our castle walls were constructed out of lies.

From the start of this novel until the very end, I was a frantic and tenacious reader. Despite the forbidden aspect, that undoubtedly made the reader in me do quite an elaborate dance, I did feel sad for both couples, especially Cannon and Piper. What they had seemed solid, unmovable. But, don’t mistake my sadness for unhappiness or dissatisfaction. This novel had everything I wanted, and things I never would have thought to include. Talk about heat and angst. Gah!! It had these qualities in abundance. The twists were just juicy as can be, making me perk up with every indiscretion and tune into all the words. There were moments in the last 40% of the book where I was present in the room with conversations. I could smell what they smelled, see what they saw. It was sensory overload, so powerful and overwhelming. When the whole universe exploded for these couples, I thought I might just die. Woah! These authors threw me for a good one and kudos to them. I wanted to throttle someone, repeatedly. I was empty and blank from complete and total shock. Reality can be a real tricky beast, and it caused the cracks in my heart to race like veins, dividing every piece. I had stutter-stop breathing from there until the end.

“The spark,” I whisper. “Whenever I think about you or see you, I get all this nervous energy. But it’s the good kind of nervous. The kind that brings me to life and reminds me of how much I’ve been missing.”

I didn’t want this book to end. I didn’t want to have to turn the last page. I didn’t want to have to say good-bye to a love that came out of nowhere, should never have been, but lit my world on fire. It was extraordinary.

“This isn’t about me saving you. It’s about me showing you what you deserve.”
