One promise.
One forever.

One look and I knew Cole was mine. My dark rebel in leather. My powerhouse of passion, devastating smiles, and impulsiveness.
When his job sends him overseas, he promises to return to me.
A promise that’s destroyed in the most irrevocable way.

Two years later, an arrogant suit invades my heartbroken loneliness.

Clean-cut and stern, Trace is everything Cole wasn’t.
At first, he’s a job that will rescue my dance company. But as he intrudes on my life, our hostile relationship evolves.
He knows I’m still in love with Cole, but his dedication is my undoing.

Then a catastrophic moment changes everything.

Promises resurface.
Lies entangle.
And an impossible choice shatters my world.

I love two men, and I can only have one.

My Review

One is a Promise by Author Pam Godwin is book one in the Tangled Lies Series.  It is a romance story that must be read to be classified. I have tried to make this review as vague, but informative as possible….but I really want to tell you EVERYTHING!

Love isn’t a choice. Nor is life. We connect, or we don’t connect. We live, and we die. There is no forever. The real fight is in making the best of it, making a difference, and appreciating the small glimmers of happiness.

Danni has been in love and lost what was most precious to her.  Promises made and unkept crippled her.  Until Trace.  He was everything she didn’t know she needed to get her life back on track and her libido back in the game.

I’ve been called reckless, shameless, audacious, and even naive, but I think those name-callers live in fear and paranoia. I prefer to view things with open-minded optimism.

In the last year, I have become a fan of Author Pam Godwin and her books. She has a potent way with words in that they wrap around you and caress you without you ever actually being touched.  A tease, a tempt, a taste.  As I hoped, I was really enjoying this novel from page one. But when I got to Danni and Cole’s first meeting, butterflies took flight and my heart skipped a beat.  It was then that I understood Danni and her obsession with him. He was just as charming and seductive as she, and I knew the universe was theirs for the taking.

“Are you married?” “I will be.” Resting a leather-sleeved forearm on the gas tank, he leans in. “Does five o’clock tonight work for you?” I sip the coffee and hum. “Is that a proposal?” “It’s a foregone conclusion.” He rubs his jaw with a gloved hand. “I always wondered what you would look like.” “You wondered what I would look like?” “My forever.”

Danni was one of the most smart-mouthed and devilishly saucy females.  Her dialogue made me simultaneously laugh and tense up. But this quality made her the perfect contender for Trace’s demanding nature. He needed someone who could give as good as she got, and that was Danni. Unfortunately, another man was also once the same way, and just as enamored by Danni.  Cole was the past and Trace seemed to be the future.

He gives me more than a smile. The look that follows marks the before and after in my life. The air ceases to exist, and the only thing between us is the anticipation of what is coming. In that flicker of time, with something as inconceivable as a look, he claims me, owns me, and ruins me for all others. It’s a look so defining it puts quotation marks around mine, his, us, and forever.

Omg!  I had no idea when I started this story that it would end with my heart hanging in the balance.  Holy cow.  I was salivating!  And then drowning in grief for what was, is, and could have been.  But, Pam Godwin opened Pandora’s box and I had a front-row seat.  I am both delighted and freaked out.  This is gonna be good.  Come on book two!

The moment has come to an end, and I know it’s just the beginning.

About Pam Godwin

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Pam Godwin, lives in the Midwest with her

husband, their two children, and a foulmouthed parrot. When she ran away, she traveled fourteen

countries across five continents, attended three universities, and married the vocalist of her

favorite rock band.

Java, tobacco, and dark romance novels are her favorite indulgences, and might be considered

more unhealthy than her aversion to sleeping, eating meat, and dolls with blinking eyes.
