Maybe we shouldn’t have fallen so fast and so willingly.

Maybe we shouldn’t have moved in together before we went on our first date.

Maybe we should have given our wounds time to heal before we tore each other to shreds.

Maybe we should have never been together.

Houston has kept a devastating secret from Rory since the day he took her into his home. But the tragic circumstances that brought them together left wounds too deep to heal.

Five years after the breakup, Houston and Rory are thrust together by forces beyond their control. And all the resentments and passion return with more intensity than ever.

Once again, Houston is left with a choice between the truth and the only girl he’s ever loved.

The Way We Fall is the first book in The Story of Us series, which follows the tumultuous love story of Rory and Houston. The sequel, The Way We Break, will be released Spring 2015.

I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

“You can’t erase love without erasing yourself.”

This is not your ordinary second chance story of love. You will not have consistent warm fuzzies that keep you smiling.  But what you will do is feel…and feel and feel. Be prepared and pack a box of tissues. You are going to be beyond moved!

“You’ll always be the deepest scar on my heart.”

Rory is going through life, making every day the best it can be. To look at her from the outside she would appear to be a very normal functioning individual. But, inside she holds scars and hurts that she has never gotten over.

“The first boy I every loved. And boy, did I love him a long time.  I loved him until he was a man. I loved him until he loved me back.”

Houston is dealing with the past in his own way, which may not always be the best strategy. He has regrets that he has tried to live with daily, and has secrets that still haunt him.

“The world can fall to pieces around us, but in the end, we’ll always make it back to us.”

Rory and Houston have both moved on in their separate lives. But, neither of them has   forgotten each other, the love they once shared, or the tragedy that ultimately brought them together.  As we read the story we find that they have known each other for years. There is a thread that initially held them and connected them. But this same thread is the one that has tied their single strands into a knot and has them unknowingly bound. Startlingly bound to each other, to the past, and the future. Proceeding with them in the story from past to present we learn about their lives before and after secrets and misfortune were introduced. We hear them recount moments in life that have framed every step and decision.  We feel every emotion possible from the beginning of their story until the to be continued, and we cannot help but to ache for them and be in love with them, individually and as a couple.

Cassia Leo wrote The Way We Fall in such a way that I melted right into it,  incorporating myself into each scene, as if Rory and Houston were familiar friends. My emotions were held captive as I read every page. I wanted to devour the story from beginning to end, but found it necessary to read the story in parts, as I was wrecked and overcome with extreme feelings of grief and sadness for the main characters. I was pleasantly surprised with the glimpses of Rory and Houston’s underlying personalities that offered a beacon of hope and helped me to cheer them on even when things seemed bleak. The other characters that were present added a dynamic that gave depth and greater understanding to the story line.  I am eagerly looking forward to the next installment in this series!

“This is the way we fall.  First we lost our balance, teetering precariously on the edge of uncertainty, until, mercilessly, gravity takes over.  You can’t outshine gravity.”
